    • Robert Thompson obtained six Lord Granville Grants in NC between 1755 and 1762. The earliest tract was surveyed for him on 10 Nov 1754. Four of the grants were in Rowan County, and two in Orange County. He had a total of 2,969 acres of land granted to him in these two counties. [Lord Granville Grants, NC State Archives]

Deeds recorded in Rowan Co indicate that Robert Thompson sold off some of his property between 1761 & 176. Guilford Co., NC. records show that Robert Thompson and Latice Thompson of the County of Rowan sold on 2 March 1763, a 350-acre tract of land on Haw River to Wm. Patrick. This deed was recorded in Aug 1771, after the county was formed and after Robert Thompson had died on 16 May 1771. [Deed Book A, pg 15, Guilford County, NC.]

Robert Thompson was shot and killed by Governor William Tryon just before the Battle of Alamance in Orange County, NC., on 16 May 1771.
