    Notes
    • "Paris Benbow (ca. 1820 - 1875) was aborn in the Oak Ridge area, and I recall hearing my grandfather Hamilton Pegg say that Paris Benbow was an older brother of DeWitt Clinton Benbow who played an important role in the development of Greensboro and became known across the state. Paris Benbow and his wife were Quakers and they purchased a 200 acre tract of land on the Burnt Poplar Rd. just west of where it crosses Highway 68 and about two miles southwest of Friendship and very near the Carter gristmill. They built a nice and sizeable house on a knoll between two small streams which flow into Pegg Creek. Paris Benbow was a man of considerable ability and a good farmer, but he died in the 1870's and his wife sold the house and farm to Jefferson Smith and moved the family to Oak Ridge. The Benbows had relatives there and the move also put the children close to Oak Ridge Institute. There are descendants of the Paris Benbows in the Oak Ridge area at present. Paris Benbow and his wife were buried in the Friends Cemetery at Deep River Church."
"Something of the Story of Deep River," by William Wesley Pegg, Sr., published by the Guilford County Genealogical Society, Greensboro, NC, 1999, 2nd edition, p. 38.
Note: Paris was married twice. The wife mentioned in this book is the second wife.
